Indoor Water Fountains, Negative Ions, And You

Interior water features are quickly increasing in popularity in North America. Today, an impressive array of beautiful models of indoor water fountains are showing up in homes throughout the country. However, appearances are not the sole reason for the recent interior fountain popularity. Indoor fountains are also gaining interest for their mood-changing qualities. Interior fountains as a treatment for depression? It might not be as far fetched as it sounds.

Indoor fountains give off airborne particles called negative ions. As you might recall from high school chemistry class, a negative ion is a molecule that has dropped one or more electrons, and consequently has a negative charge. For water fountains the negative ions are airborne water molecules created by the turbulence in an indoor fountain. The negative ions can have some very positive effects. Negative ions, due to their electrical charge, adhere to harmful particles in the environment, eliminating air-borne pollutants such as dust and smoke particles. Furthermore many scientists now believe that negative ions, like those generated by an indoor water fountain, may also have a strong effect on mood.

A scientific study at Columbia University confirmed that inhaling negative ions, like those created by indoor fountains, can increase the production of serotonin, the neurotransmitter tied to feelings. Individuals with clinical depression produce abnormally very low levels of serotonin. Because of this, most antidepressant medications counteract the disorder by increasing serotonin levels.

You can easily imagine serotonin as “joy juice”; the more you have, the happier you are. Additional research is necessary, but ion therapy may provide an alternate therapy for depression, by raising serotonin levels without the hazardous side effects associated with most anti-depressant prescription drugs.

As with all preliminary research findings, this one has its limitations. It is unclear what size of an indoor fountain would be required to yield useful levels of negative ions. The research is still in its early stages. What is clear, nonetheless, is that no indoor water feature will hurt. Even a small indoor water feature, with its soothing white noise, is sure to brighten up your surroundings… and perhaps your disposition as well.

Information About Rose Flower

Roses are flowering perennials of the genus Rosa. You can find more than 100 species of roses, and there are countless subspecies and cultivars. Rose flower is undeniably fragrant and beautiful, and its fragrance is also among the most popular flowers in the world. Their fragrance and the beauty that they are famous for is what makes these flowers so highly sought after in all parts of the world. Most of the rose species are native to Asia, with a few native to Europe, Northwest Africa and North America. Rose flower vary quite a bit in size.

The most popular color is red as those flowers symbolize love and passion. In ancient Greece, Egypt and Rome, they were associated with goddesses of love. Red roses are a favorite gift for Valentines Day and the flowers come in many different shades of red. You can find roses in other colors as well, such as: blues, whites, pinks and yellows (these flowers are often hybrid). Different cultivars have been developed to emphasize color, scent, shape, size and disease resistance, among many other attributes.

The edible fruits produced from this flower is called rose hips and many people believe the fruit has healing properties. An aromatic oil that is made by steam-distilling petals of rose, known as Attar of Rose, has been used by people as an element in perfumes for centuries. Almost all cut roses that are sold by florists today are the hybrid tea variety. Roses can grow as vine-like climbers or as bushes, and depending, the blossoms can set singly on its individual stems or also in clusters of up to a dozen on a single spray.

Artificial varieties of rose are abundantly available. They are used in displays in many homes. These favorites are often copied and then presented in a slew of different materials (often in silk material). Roses are reproduced more than any other flower.

A Look At The Characteristics Of The Ancient Fountain Pen

The first fountain pen was invented as a viable product in 1884, previous models did exist but none was ready for mass production. Lewis Waterman was the first to create a good viable pen, and he was a real pioneer for the writing industry. Although previous patents for fountain pens were recognized in both North America and Europe the pens had many functional problems. Ink spills and material issues were the main difficulties for the pen industry. Because of such failures early pens like those from the 18th century were very hard to sell in those days when the quill pens were still ruling.

As a historical record the fountain pen appeared one thousand years after the apparition of quill pens, in fact it was the quill that inspired the inventors. They noticed that the ink had the tendency to remain in the feather natural capillary system acting like a reservoir. So they thought how to create a larger reservoir that could store an increased amount of ink. Their idea was simple, to create a man-made pen that would not need constant dipping in the ink. The most primitive pens included a long rubber reservoir with a metal nib at the bottom. This first models were a failure from a certain point of view because of ink dripping: they weren’t good enough to draw a straight line on paper.

Lewis Waterman created the best fountain pen of his times, it is said that the innovatory idea came to him after loosing a valuable contract because of leaky ink pens. He added an air hole into the nib, and he also modified the feed mechanism adding three groves. All fountain pens contain an internal reservoir, for which the first viable solution was the rubber sack. This flexible sack was simply squeezed and inserted in the bottle, when the sack was released the internal pressure would fill it with ink.

There are nine sizes for fountain pen nibs, each of them can be italic, oblique or straight. In the old days the ink composition wasn’t similar to the one we have in our days. The fact is that corrosion affected the metal so fast that few nibs could be used; hence gold was the only good alternative to other materials. To compensate for the lower hardness of gold the tip of the nib was treated with iridium. Another characteristic for early fountain pens was the fact that the nibs would flex gradually according to the owners’ writing skills, this is one of the reasons for which people avoided lending their pens.

Getting Married Think Acapulco!

Suppose you are planning to get married, and you are living in the United States, Canada or Europe. Consider getting married in Acapulco, Mexicos Pearl of the Pacific. Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Todd did it. So have many other celebrities since then. And each year many other romantic couples do the same.

One of the best parts of having an Acapulco wedding is that as soon as the ceremony is over, you are already on your honeymoon!

What makes Acapulco the perfect wedding location? Few other places in the world have such beautiful waters, framed by mountains that descend dramatically down to the sea. Acapulcos natural bay is unlike any other. The weather is reliably gorgeous, the people are warm and welcoming, and everything is just a few hours plane ride from most points of departure in North America.

Think about exchanging vows right at the waters edge on the beach itself surrounded by natural beauty. Acapulco has scores of perfect beach settings for such nuptials large, small, formal, informal, morning, afternoon or evening. Another option is to wed under a bower in one of the elegant, tropical gardens of the citys many resort hotels. Religious ceremonies can be planned for any one of Acapulcos several beautiful churches.

The Easy Way to Do It
No matter where you might imagine tying the knot on the beach, in a garden or in a church you will need to take care of certain unavoidable details. They include the legal requirements, flowers, music, officiant, reception, lodging, bachelor and bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinner, and other activities for the wedding party.

The easiest way to handle all of this is to place it all with a trained wedding planner, one who wither works in or with Acapulcos resorts. Some people think that this option might cost substantially more than a do-it-yourself alternative. Others may be reluctant to surrender control over the wedding plan to someone they dont know.

In truth, a good wedding planner should save at least as much money as he or she costs. If you plan to stay at a resort hotel with the wedding party, the hotel itself will provide great nuptial packages, with discounts on many services. Some details like transport to and from the civil registry can be handled more efficiently and cheaply by the hotel than by you directly.

This is not to say that wedding planners always find bargains. In Mexico it is probable that the concierge/wedding planner is offered a kickback for recommending certain outside services, like photographers, florists or musicians. Though some resorts try to prevent this practice, it is very hard to control. But even with some flex in the prices, they are still probably a good bit lower than anything you could negotiate for yourself. With the resort there is the prospect of repeat business. That is not true with you.

The other cost savings comes from experience. Presumably you do not plan to have more than one Acapulco wedding in your life. The wedding planner may handle several dozen in a year. Touches that to you may seem marvelous may, through the lens of experience, be seen as more trouble or expense than they are worth.

If the catering is provided by an Acapulco resort, the charges will be based on the number of people expected. There will be enough of everything for everyone, and unlike a do-it-yourself affair — you do not have to overbuy, just to be safe, and then wind up paying for things you did not use.

Wedding planners are aware that many couples do not have a ton of money to spend on the wedding ceremony and hospitality. They are accustomed to working within a budget. And in Acapulco, the budget can stretch much farther than elsewhere in North America or in Europe. For example, Acapulcos tropical climate makes it possible to buy incredible flowers for the wedding at a small fraction of what they cost in colder climates.

Another benefit of working with a wedding planner is having a more realistic sense about when things start and how long they take. Time in Acapulco is more elastic than in the English-speaking world. Nothing should be programmed too tightly.

If you are worried that a wedding planner will take over everything and deprive you of the fun (and the design prerogative) of planning your own wedding, you just need to engage in a careful search for the person whose approach is most harmonious with yours. Avoid those who seem to have a one-size-fits-all approach. They are not creative, they do not listen to their clients, and they are mainly concerned with meeting sales goals. Fortunately, they are a small minority. Most resorts are aware that brides may choose the location for the wedding (and hence the lodging and catering) based on how well she relates to the wedding planner on staff. They train and encourage their people to suggest, but not impose, to guide, but not lead. Some resorts can proudly point to many couples that come back every year for a vacation because their wedding was such a success.

Next to selecting the wedding planner with great care, the second most important tip for having a memorable and beautiful Acapulco wedding is to give the planner and yourselves more than enough time for making the plan work well. Some things simply can not be accomplished on the spur of the moment. When you think of all the things that have to come together at once travel arrangements, lodging, catering, and official paperwork it is just common sense to start many months in advance if at all possible. The best idea is to make a special trip to interview wedding planners and meet personally with the one you select, to get everything off to a good start.
