The whole family can stay cool this summer at Greenville, South Carolina water parks. This city in the Upcountry of the state has four unique water parks to check out. Three are owned and operated by the Greenville County Recreation District (Greenville REC), and one is privately owned. So grab the kids and head for the closest one.
Discovery Island Water Park in Simpsonville has plenty of fun activities to entertain the entire family. Owned by Greenville REC, it is part of Southside Park, located at 417 Baldwin Road. Grab a tube and float down the lazy river or make a splash in the leisure pool. There are two water slides, geysers, and a childrens water play structure. Discovery Island is the home of the FlowRider, a simulated surfing machine that provides waves for boogie boarding, body surfing, and stand up surfing. The parks large sundeck is the perfect place to work on a tan. Concessions are available at the park. Discovery Island is open Monday-Saturday from 10:30am-5:30pm and Sunday from 1-5:30pm. Admission is $12 for persons 48 inches and taller and $8 for kids under 48 inches. Children age 2 and under are admitted free.
Otter Creek in Northside Park is also owned by Greenville REC. The park is located at 101 W. Darby Road in Greenville. Otter Creek has a zero depth entry pool and several water slides, including the Tadpole Slide for the little ones. Kids will love the parks splash pad. Concessions are available. Otter Creek is open Monday-Saturday from 10:30am-5:30pm and Sunday from 1-5:30pm. Admission is $11 for persons 42 inches and taller and $8 for those under 42 inches.
The third Greenville REC water park is 7th Inning Splash at Lakeside Park. This park is just minutes southwest of Greenville at 1500 Piedmont Hwy in the town of Piedmont. Spin round and round the giant bowl slide and get dumped out the bottom. There are also smaller traditional slides. The park has a full size pool and a baseball themed splash pad. Concessions are available. Park hours are Monday-Saturday from noon-5pm and Sunday from 1-5pm. Admission is $7 for persons 48 inches and taller and $6 for those under 48 inches.
Shipwreck Cove is a privately owned water park located between Greenville and Spartanburg. The park is at 119 S. Spencer Street in Duncan, South Carolina. Small children will love this pirate themed water park with its kiddie pool and play area. The parks larger pool features a pirate ship complete with water cannons. Visitors can tube down the lazy river or cool off on the two water slides. Shaded shelters provide protection from the sun. Concessions are available. Park hours are Monday-Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from 1-6pm. Admission is $11 for those over 42 inches tall and $8 for children less than 42 inches. Children under age 2 are admitted free. Admission prices are lower after 4pm.
